We have been having a great time here at our Summer Enrichment Camp.
During session 1, Botanical Wonders, we explored parts of plants, their nomenclature, and plant life-cycles through matching cards, puzzles, real plants, and art work. We observed plant microstructures under a microscope. Identification of plants, fruit, and seeds during field walks had children’s beaming!
In session 2, World of Insects, we studied insect anatomy, life-cycles, and their importance to ecosystems. We had a beekeeper tell us about honeybees drawing Ooooos and Aahhhhs! Of course, Laura is helping children with lovely art projects that support our themes.
Session 3, Jurassic Journey, was a real ‘hit’. We were thrilled to receive a visit from Dr. Curtis McCoy, Adelaide’s dad, who is an anthropologist. He brought in many really interesting artifacts, fossils, excavating tools, etc. He told stories and gave the history of each article. The children were so attentive and awestruck throughout the presentation.
Oh! We are also managing to stay cool with our water play on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, weather permitting.
