Our School

Montessori Learning Center has been serving young children and families for over forty years. Known as the “small gem” of the Montessori community, our intimate setting provides a safe and warm place for toddlers and preschoolers to begin their educational and social life. We believe, as Dr. Maria Montessori did, that education is more than simply the transfer of information. True learning occurs when a child is allowed to explore his/her environment independently, with gentle guidance, and to experience the success of being able to say “I did it myself”.

​ At Montessori Learning Center, we view each child as an individual with his or her own unique style and pace of learning. Recognizing this, our highly trained teachers individualize each child’s curriculum, providing them opportunity to fail, succeed, and challenge themselves in a safe and supportive environment.

Our Mission

Montessori Learning Center's mission is to be a child-centered learning community dedicated to developing the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of the 18 months to six-year-old child in a safe, respectful and peaceful environment.  Guided by highly qualified, Montessori certified toddler and early childhood teachers, every child develops to his/her full potential, at a self-determined pace, in multi-age, thoughtfully prepared classrooms.  Children's curiosity is cultivated and they are inspired to become self-motivated life-long learners.

The Legacy of Montessori Learning Center, LLC

Founded in 1973, Montessori Learning Center has stood as a beacon of early childhood education for over four decades. Rooted in the timeless principles of the Montessori philosophy, our school has remained a nurturing sanctuary where each child’s natural curiosity is honored, and their individuality respected.


Today, this proud legacy continues under the inspired leadership of dedicated educators and board of directors who embody a lifelong passion for Montessori education.


Shilpa Sundar, a nationally certified Montessori teacher with a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, brings over sixteen years of experience to our classrooms. Honored as Top Teacher of 2021 by Delaware Today (a parent-nominated recognition), her compassionate leadership continues to shape the hearts and minds of the children we serve.

Veena Rao, a recipient of the prestigious Delaware Governor’s Award for excellence in Montessori education, offers over thirty years of rich experience. Her wisdom, warmth, and unwavering commitment deeply inform our daily practices.

Behind the scenes, our strategic vision is guided by Dr. Nandan Rao and Rajesh Sundar, accomplished professionals with extensive backgrounds in research, operations, and organizational leadership. As fathers, scholars, and engaged members of our school community, their influence is instrumental in ensuring that the Montessori Learning Center LLC thrives both operationally and philosophically.


The Montessori Learning Center is a vibrant, collaborative community of children, teachers, board members, and parents united by one shared goal: to provide a nurturing Montessori environment where students are encouraged to become independent, lifelong learners and, above all, kind, respectful, and responsible citizens.
